I am not writing as an economist, nor as a sociologist asking unanswerable questions about wage levels, commuting, etc., nor as a moralist judging others – but as a friend. I am also writing with the approval of all the families concerned and with that of Abbé HENRY, the Curé of St Joseph. "A bus to take your children to school and then bring them home again" (4 times a day) with two stops, one at the Primary Schools in Annemasse and the other at the Nursery School. The timetable will be as follows:
DEPARTURE: Sous-Cassan: 8.15 The bus will be capable of holding about 110 children. To celebrate the inauguration of the bus service, the Curé of Saint-Joseph will be at the departure point in the morning. We will be pleased to see the families with their children when the bus leaves at 8.15. Families are asked to pay a monthly fee of:
360 francs for one child, Families who are unable to pay this amount will pay what they can, and those who cannot afford to pay anything at all will pay nothing. Someone will be given the task of collecting the monthly fees and will be visiting you for this purpose during each month. It should be noted that this fee is purely provisional until the authorities themselves assume responsibility for providing this service. We would kindly ask you to enter details of your children on the attached form and to deposit it in the letterbox of Monsieur PLANTARD, Hill B, before Sunday evening, 21 October 1956. It's about a month now since the authorities who are responsible for the infrastructure of LES PERVENCHES promised us that the entire external infrastructure would be finished before the winter of 1956. The fine words continue to pour forth but virtually nothing has even been started. "You will have a tarmac road." That's what they promised us. But the authorities obviously need a period of REFLECTION between making promises and actually putting them into effect. The estate managers seem in no doubt that the rainy days will see the road to Sous-Cassan turn into a stream and that one of these days the residents of the low-rent housing estates and of LES PERVENCHES will need boats to reach their homes. We must not forget that the children use this road four times a day to get to school and that they spend their Thursdays turning it into a playground, and that for that reason it is difficult for the housewives to keep the interiors of their houses clean and tidy. We would therefore like to know on what date and in which year a decision will finally be made to deal with this road, which is currently in a deplorable state and which threatens to become unusable due to the passage of horse-drawn traffic. A request has already been made to the Mayor of Annemasse (by letter dated 21 July 1956) asking for the road to be improved at the earliest opportunity. However, nothing has been done to date and, faced with the shameful indifference of the authorities, we are therefore repeating our request in this issue of "CIRCUIT". J. CAILLEBOITE
The formation of the committees of LES PERVENCHES is in full swing. This committee has been set up to defend the interests of the community, especially as regards the infrastructure in the area around the houses on the estate, the tarmacadaming of the road, etc… We would ask everyone to kindly join forces with us so that the committee can be formed as soon as possible. As regards the housing estate of LES BEULETS, people who are eligible to serve on the committee are asked to contact the delegates of CIRCUIT, Sous-Cassan, ANNEMASSE. Tenants on Hill C are invited to appoint a representative to serve on the Low Rent Housing committee for their Hill before Saturday 27 October 1956.
