Are There “Two Lives” of Bérenger Saunière
For The Believers?

The answer to this question is a resounding “No!”
What we have got is the discrediting of Pierre Plantard and all other similar people suffering from very similar ailments who have dreamed up popular mythologies, like for example the theory that Saunière’s wealth “originated from a discovery beneath the church of the ‘Tomb of the Lords,’ containing three deposits originating from the bishoprics of Narbonne, Carcassonne, and Alet.” We needed a painkiller to digest the argument of Paul Saussez because there is no more historical proof for this than anything claimed by Pierre Plantard & Co.
The argument that Saunière’s wealth originated from the trafficking in masses being only a theory is precisely what Plantard and other erudite schoolboys offered us for decades and decades.
Yes, today’s so-called “experts” (who may as well be called “Rennies”) are offering us the same thing as Plantard & Co – solutions without proof. I can hear professional archaeologists laughing their heads off. A change of name from Plantard to Paul Saussez, that’s all.
Let me remind people that this “mystery” has only lasted for 70 years – and in that time we have found plenty of evidence that Saunière made his wealth from trafficking in masses – but absolutely no evidence for any “Treasure Discovery” (except perhaps in wishful thinking, and the French consider themselves to be a “closed shop” in discussing the subject matter).
