Restoration of The French Monarchy During
The Late 1890s

Philippe, Comte de Paris, primary Orléanist claimant to the French throne, actively sought to restore the monarchy after the fall of Napoleon III in 1871–1873, particularly by reaching a reconciliation with Legitimist claimant Henri, Comte de Chambord, in 1873 to unify the royal factions.
Philippe, Comte de Paris, formed a strategic political alliance with General Georges Boulanger in the late 1880s, encouraging his monarchist followers to support the General’s anti-republican movement, aiming for a restoration of the monarchy, despite Boulanger having earlier expelled royal family members from the army.
As things happened – Philippe, Comte de Paris died in September 1894; while General Georges Boulanger killed himself with a bullet to the head in September 1891 on the grave of his mistress, Madame de Bonnemains who had died in his arms the preceding July. Boulanger was buried in the same grave.
